The faculty of biology is committed to contribute to a sustainable future. We belief that sustainability depends on preserving biodiversity which sustains intact ecosystems which are the basis for our food systems, economies, and the well-being of society. To help preserving biodiversity, we do excellent biological research, equip students with biodiversity literacy, strengthen science communication and participatory transfer, and promote resource-efficient practices across our research and campus operations. All our activities are connected to the four focal pillars - research, teaching, transfer, and campus life - of sustainability at the LMU, and in line with the biology-related Sustainable Development Goals of the UN: Life Below Water, Life on Land, Zero Hunger, Clean Water & Sanitation, and Climate Action.
